I have rather enjoyed this year at college. I think it has helped me develop my photography skills and take  them to the next level. Through out the year I have been given the chance to try things such as; Studio work, creative camera, drawing and self guided work. I think that this course helped  broaden  my understanding and taste in photography.
In particular one of my preferred units this year was drawing. Experimenting with different ways to create a interesting images from; working over the photographs on photoshop to drawing directly over them. I preferred this unit because I liked to draw it gave me a huge chance to be creative and different with what I did. If I would change anything about that unit, I probably would have like to create more i photographs.
I think my weakest unit this year was possible the first unit we did, portraiture. I think my work lacked individuality and my own personal touches to it. For that I am the only person to blame. If I could go back I think I would have done more research and tried more ideas.

MUSIC VIDEO STORY BOARD

This is one of my latest units. Which is pretty simple and one of the most fun actually. We had to pick a song, any song we like and then create a story board for a section of the song. I picked Biffy Cylro - Bubbles.
I think the idea itself of using bubbles can be tricky. cause they can be hard to capture clearly in a photograph. But I'm happy that I took the risk this time.

Studio

This wonderful little girl below is my niece Tori and my sister was kind enough to let me steal her (Not literally) to be one of my unit subjects. In this unit, I wanted to make her a young version of Alice in wonderland, mainly focusing on the part, where all the white roses are getting painted red. I'm pretty chuffed with my outcomes to say the least. Like most kids her age she can't keeps still really for more then a minute unless they are bribed with sweet things. The only thing I found particularly hard about this unit was when I had to set the studio up... I'm the type of person who would rather take photos outside rather then in a studio.

LEGO MEN!

Ah, I live to annoy my tutors sometimes, I think anyway... I'm not exactly a easy student when it comes to unit ideas... I ended up basically talking my tutor into allowing me to go up a ladder to take my first photograph! I'm the best at balance I can tell you that. This unit I scarcely remember anything, which is of course my fault entirely. Instead of telling you what my unit was, I can however tell you what my pictures are:
It's an adventure! A Lego friend adventure, in everyday surroundings (WELL, my surroundings that is)
I did actually enjoy taking photo's for this unit, lots of ideas and a few friends inputs made the work pass quickly.

Creative Camera Tech!

One of my projects not too long ago was creative camera tech, where we were shown how to think outside the box a bit more with our work, be more experimental and generally have fun. Below are a collection of photographs I took in Lincoln Cathedral, using the effect called zoom bust. I particularly like the effect it had on several of the stain glass windows.

(Washing Machine effect) Turing the camera on the side while the picture is being taken. I like the effect it had on this photograph, it makes the stain glass window look like a firework.

Sorry!

I've been forgetful lately ( more like the past couple of months), so... Perpare the flood gate for a load of updates comming this way.

3D shoot- shoot 2 Code name- Rebel Hearts.

Hey, so finally got round to doing the other shoot a couple weeks back. These are the results. I think I have improved slightly, still learning; but getting better, which is always good. This shoot is the sister shoot to Dream or a.k.a Fairy Tale Romance. I hope the difference shows in the shoots.

My aim for this shoot was to have a rebellious, fresh teen angst feel to it. I was hopefully going to  achieve this by pairing the skirt with heavier and more dominate fabrics I own, then trying to make the skirt more rugged  and harsh looking. I thought the Velvet shirt would work with the skirt because it has a dominate edge to the fabric. So in pairing a net skirt with velvet, my hope was to have two clashing fabrics standing out making the outfit have a more stand out from the crowd feel to it.

By adding the denim jacket I was hoping it would only add to the outfit. An like with the other shoot I incorporated a item with a particular meaning. For this shoot, I choose a bandanna. (Not visible in all shots but effective in the ones they are). What does the Bandanna mean to me? It's the heart of many things... Hair Dresser Rock branching off onto Rock, Rebellion, Recklessness. It's the front runner for a fair few styles to, Biker, Rock, Emo, Goth are the one's that are close linking to the shoot but it can also be seen in indie, nerdy, country etc. The bandanna is basically so versatile, never going out of fashion. Always being at the heart of so many subcultures of fashion. I just couldn't simple have a wardrobe without one.

3D Idea 1- Shoot 1 Code name ;D Dream

Right , where do I start... Well more precisely how do I start? I guess I should begin with the fact that this is the first time I've done photographs like this... Ever, and I mean ever. If I was to compare it to anything; It was like trying to ride a bike for this first time ever without stabilizers, exhilarating but petrifying. I should probably first fill you in with the current unit I'm doing now, instead of making you second guess yourself.

At this moment in time I'm in the middle of my 3D Unit. Its a fashion unit, in which our (The college groups) task is to record a three dimensional object either an item of Clothing, Material and or accessories in It's own appealing and unique way.

I don't know about others on the course, but me personally I've never really had to worry about making a garment look 3D in a photograph before. It's not exactly my thing per-say, not that I dislike this unit it's just different; which isn't a bad thing.

I now I will fill you in with my idea, including everything else it entails. I plan to use just one of the above garments repeatedly, the skirt; hand made (A mixture of mine and my mothers work, make shift and simple).  I am aiming to achieve two different looks with this skirt, making it more appealing and show the versatility of the fabric.

I have certainly included my ever evolving and ever changing skills as a young photographer ...

Look/ Idea 1 ( See above photograph for visual assistance) I aim to create a dream like atmosphere with hints of romance thrown into the mix. To do this idea, I worked with creams and pastels; to contrast against the type of netting the skirt is made out of. I used a light smooth top with a hint of baby pink, the jewelry made the outfit and took it to the next level, only adding to the feel and not hindering. So why not pearls? The very meaning of elegance, woman hood and romance shrunken down into an object... A pearl. Naturally I thought of several ways to incorporate them in this shoot. I am not naturally gifted with hairdressing skills nor would I know who to go to for such a thing, so I was lead towards incorporating them altogether as a necklace. A hint of flowers would again add depth to the outfit? So why the hell not! As for the setting... This was honestly my fall back location, but I adore it all the same, it was warm and inviting (I don't just mean atmosphere wise... I fogged up when I walked into that conservatory after coming from the harsh morning air).

As for idea 2, I'd rather keep you waiting to hear my thought on it after I have completed shoot 1 for it ^-^
Enjoy the rest of the photographs.

Experimental light photography

Most of my photographs; before college, I had captured in the spirit of the moment, I didn't create them, I didn't search for them... I waited for them. I waited until the soul oozed to capture a single moment in time, which can never be replicated again. So when I started college everything seemed a bit different to me, you we're given a unit brief and a deadline. Told to go discover, to create and capture. It turned my perspective upside down but I wasn't going to let that hold me back. This particular photo is from a drawing unit we were given. We were split into groups of about four or five, in this average sized studio, told to play around with exposure settings and movement. The lights went out, Time to create, time to be the conductor. This image was a complete fluke, I did know what I was doing, I just let my arm dance around and around. I think that was one of the most interesting things I have experienced. Waiting to see your shots, if they are hit or a miss. If you’re up for a laugh and a surprise, I would say sure go for it give it ago.
( Exposure time- 10 seconds)
